Internships at Kasada are aimed to be about learning fast, building cool things, and contributing to the work our teams care about. Whether it’s digging into the latest machine learning techniques or uncovering the tactics of commercial bots, we treat internships like launchpads for learning, contribution, and growth.

We caught up with two of our recent interns, Max (from ANU) and Kasey (from Lafayette College), to hear about their time at Kasada. They came in from different sides of the business—engineering and operations, but both left with new skills, meaningful contributions, and a sharper sense of where they’re headed next.

Pushing Boundaries with Machine Learning & Enhancing CRM Hygiene

For Max, “the most enjoyable part of my internship was researching new machine learning techniques I’d never encountered before.”

His project centered around detecting anomalies in time series data, work that began with basic algorithms but evolved into something far more advanced. When early models mistakenly flagged day/night cycles as anomalies, he pivoted to explore STL decomposition. “It was exciting to learn how to factor in seasonality while still detecting true outliers.”

Kasey, on the other hand, worked from the business side, applying his studies in business and data science to the world of sales operations. He focused on cleaning up CRM data in HubSpot, using tools like Dedupely and Clay to streamline sales outreach and make prospecting more efficient. “The combination of orderly data and enriched intel made sales outreach more targeted. It was rewarding to see analysis actually inform strategy.”

Learning How Bots Work—and How to Stop Them

Before joining, Max associated bots mostly with malware and botnets. But at Kasada, he discovered the commercial side of bot attacks—scraping, credential abuse, checkout fraud—and how damaging these can be for major brands.

“Learning how Kasada detects and disrupts these threats in real time was fascinating. It gave me a whole new view of cybersecurity.”

Kasey, meanwhile, worked with threat intel data to uncover monthly trends in account takeover attacks. His research fed directly into sales and marketing efforts, helping teams better prioritize accounts and tailor their messaging. “It was fulfilling to see the movement of information from analysis to action,” he said.

Mentorship, Access, and the Willingness to Help

Throughout the internship, mentorship played a big role.

Max shared, “Scott, my mentor, gave me the freedom to explore but also helped shape the project with his expectations and suggestions. Reece, too, helped me get context and onboarded me to the SecOps and Threat Intel teams. I learned so much from both.”

Kasey echoed a similar experience across go-to-market teams. He met with leaders in sales, marketing, and customer support, learning not only about systems and data, but about career paths, technical fluency in sales, and what it takes to earn customer trust. “Everyone was incredibly generous with their time and advice,” he shared.

Tools, Snacks, and a Culture That Moves Fast

Both interns were surprised (and impressed) by the tools they got access to. Max worked in Splunk and Gemini to iterate quickly on his detection models. Kasey used Clay to combine internal data and AI enrichment for prospecting.

And of course, no in-person internship reflection is complete without a mention of the snack drawer. “The snack selection? Exceeded expectations.”

Where They’re Headed Next

Max left with a deeper appreciation for fast-moving scale-ups and a stronger sense of the type of environment he wants to work in. “Smaller companies give you more room to learn fast and do meaningful work.”

Kasey heads into his junior year energized about the intersection of data and business. He’s taking econometrics and corporate finance next semester and feels more confident than ever about applying data science in real-world decision-making.“This experience showed me how data can connect departments and drive action. It gave me a clear direction for what I want next.”
